Respite

A respite provider gives the family or primary caregiver a break from his or her duties of caring for an individual with a disability. Breaks are needed in order to rest and re-charge as well as to take care of other duties or responsiblities. Time away from caregiving is important to releive stress and avoid getting burned out. During respite, the respite provider will be responsible for the safety and well being of the individual being cared for. Respite is ussually provided in the family home or in the community. Respite may also be provided in the provider's certified home. Not all providers will have a certified home in which to provide the service. This service is available through DDD or private pay.

Attendant Care

The attendant care provider will do for the individual what the individual is not able to do for themself or able to learn through habilitation services. Typical attendant care duties include grocery shopping, light house work, cooking, laundry, or other evryday chores. Attendant care may also consist of assisting with personal hygiene, medication reminders, or attending doctor appointments.Attendant care providers are required to receive special training and are monitored on a regular basis by agency staff. Attendant care takes place in the indivual's home or in the community.This service is available through DDD or private pay.

Habilitation

Habilitation services consist of working with the individual to teach skills needed for activities of daily living (ADLs). Progress is tracked and goals are updated at least annually. Family members are encouraged to participate in developing the teaching strategies and monitoring requirements in order to ensure the needs are met to the fullest extent possible. Habilitation providers are required to receive special training. Habilitation takes place in the indivual's home or in the community.This service is available through DDD or private pay.

Companion Care

Companion Care is a non-DDD service similar to, but more flexible than respite. This service is designed for private pay clients that wish to have a provider spend time with them. Time may be spent doing activities of the individual's choice, accompany to/from doctor appointments, or just check in to assure things are going well. This is a customizable service designed to fit the needs of the individual.
